Overview This unit will cover many of William Shakespeare’s key works and give students a better understanding of the language and importance of Shakespeare’s contribution to the written word.

Timeframe This will be a four week unit with all five days being dedicated to some type of scholarly work pertaining to Shakespeare.
Rationale Shakespeare has had an impact on everything we read or watch, from classic literature to modern remakes. This unit will give students a basic comprehension of Shakespeare’s language, influence and overall reach in both modern and classical literature.
Unit Objectives Students will be able read and comprehend Shakespeare at a level in order to write and talk intelligently about some major talking points of the plays.
Unit Standards Reading and writing at a college level in preparation to further their education.
Variations or Adaptions If there is any trouble in understanding or comprehending the written word, or in some cases the spoken word of the play, students should not be nervous about this. There are many ways, from translation to further close reading with myself that we can easily break Shakespeare down into bite size pieces!
Lesson: The Use of Shakespearian Language
Title of lesson: Shakespearian Radio Show
Description of lesson: The students will work in small groups (2-4) to create a 5-8 minute podcast using their best Shakespearian language.
Assignment: Create a short podcast with their classmates using Shakespearian language.
Resources/materials needed: Computer lab and microphone, short script.
Technology reflection: Students will learn to use 21st century technoology to their benefit.
